OurLives is Pearl Homes’ latest venture to bring sustainability and affordable housing to Manatee County. OurLives is a modern take on community living, encompassing forward-thinking design and cutting-edge home technology, allowing each resident the opportunity to truly live a cleaner, simpler life.
The community is expected to bring 720 multi-family units, ranging from one-bedroom to three-bedroom units, that are interspersed throughout the mixed-use development situated on 160 acres of land in Ellenton, Florida. The development is built by Pearl Homes, an award-winning regional homebuilder, leading the charge for building new urbanist, pocket communities that meet at the intersection of sustainability, with prefabricated, high-quality and ow-cost construction, and affordability, with leases expected to be aligned with HUD-fair market rental rates. Recognized as a leader in energy-efficient housing, Pearl Homes is the builder and owner of the world’s very first LEED Zero Energy Home, as certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
At the former Manatee Inns site along 14th Street West in Bradenton, Pearl Homes is proposing to build 200 affordable housing apartment units that have integrated Google smart home functionalities, solar power and an emphasis on water and energy conservation. The company wants to bring a similar project to Ellenton. Pearl Homes
Incorporating third-party inspections and verifications at every point in the building process, OurLives will be constructed with some of the most advanced green building practices available in the market today. In addition to the multifamily units, OurLives will feature communal gathering spaces and complementing commercial businesses located conveniently within the community. As a result, each resident will be able to experience amenities and a lifestyle that fosters positive social interactions. OurLives is built with modular units produced at scale, ensuring each unit is built to factory-level precision. Community members can enjoy that their homes are built with high quality materials and engineered for exceptional durability to withstand Florida’s hurricane season.
The commitment to sustainable living is at the core of OurLives, offering a step closer to the future of modern building and community development. OurLives utilizes solar power, including on-site battery storage technology, to drastically reduce energy consumption and traditional utility costs. Coupled with Pearl Homes’ use of sustainable building methods and materials, the community aims to reduce its carbon footprint and overall waste.
Additionally, OurLives will utilize community gardens, composting, recycling, and communal tools, as well utilizing the community’s bargaining power to secure discounts and exclusive offers for residents frequenting the businesses operating within the community. Most of the residences will be within a short walk from the center of the community. Shops and businesses will be targeted for the daily needs of each household, such as providing daycares, small coffee shops, or spaces for food vendors.
As Pearl Homes’ founder and President, Marshall Gobuty stated, “a community that is responsibly built to limit our impact on the surrounding environment, and ensuring that hard-working members of our community can afford, is not only something that we tremendously proud of, but in plain terms, is just the right thing to do.”
The project’s close proximity to the Blackburn Elementary School will importantly help to foster a safe environment for children living within the community. By affording children the option to walk or bike to school, congestion during pick-ups and drop-offs can be reduced—all working to improve children’s overall health and social bonds. Teachers and parents will also have places to meet for after-school activities. Roadways within the community itself will encourage and promote an environment for bicycles and pedestrians.
Pearl Homes’ vision for OurLives started with a simple concept: to make a beautiful community that is affordable. With its experienced team of planners, designers, architects, engineers, lawyers, and construction managers, Pearl Homes is creating a safe and healthy place to raise families, offering a sense of belonging, and generating social well-being.
